Hello, colleagues I'm looking for your experience, Which surgical field is good for women? I do like cardiac surgery, is it compatible with women spirit and power? Is the night shifts good or so busy? How many visits does a cardiac surgery resident have over night? Regarding of 5 year of cardiac surgery residency in Iran and is straight from general physician degree(MD); is it hard or not? Can I fulfil it? Thanks for your help
In my humble opinion, every single medical field requires a will to sacrifice some aspects of a one’s life. Either it is free time you could have spent with your loved ones, or good sleeping habits... It may differ. The biggest problem I see in the surgical field for women is that you would have to do the night shifts and could not be home with your potential kids, or a serious accident may happen and you’d be called in to operate even though you’d be on vacation... I think, for women, it is either family and time spent with them, or being a great surgeon dedicated to her job.
A woman I grew up with is a cardiac surgeon. Her husband was a stay at home dad until the kids were older. You would have to find a man who is secure enough to help equally in the household if you want kids. It can be done.
Today being a woman in life sciences is no difference that being a man. I dont understand that about power
40hrs of heart surgery, maybe a little exhausting; some people believe that!
Today in Western countries there are not differences being a women or a man. I dont understand what you said about woman spirit and power. Are you a sexist person?
If you have to limit yourself for a man, it is the wrong man, the wrong man.
