Pulmonary hypoplasia

Pulmonary hypoplasia

Pulmonary hypoplasia is incomplete development of the lungs, resulting in an abnormally low number or size of bronchopulmonary segments or alveoli. The severity of the lesion depends on the timing of the insult in relation to the stage of lung development, prior to or after the pseudoglandular stage at 6-16 weeks of gestation.
