At times, many labor complications sound worse than they are. This one doesn’t! Notice the multiple loops of the umbilical cord around the baby’s abdomen. Umbilical cord abnormalities are accepted as conditions associated with intrauterine fetal demise, and umbilical cord stricture is most frequently encountered.Either umbilical cord stricture or entanglement around the body can affect the development of the fetus be lethal. While the fetus is moving in the amniotic fluid, there are chances of cord entanglement around the body parts, which can happen during all trimesters, as well as while delivering. The cord entanglement around the abdomen might be happened in the early weeks of gestation. The baby might have grown, along with the cord loops around the abdomen. Cord entanglement around the abdomen causes shortening of the remaining cord and the fetus might have been settled in a transverse position. As the baby grew slowly, the cord might have tightened slowly. In other words, the multiple cord loops around the fetus causes decreased fetal movements and the fetal heart shows variations. This leads to a situation where the fetus is unable to escape from the entanglement, which happened in the early weeks of gestation and is settled in a transverse position. Either as a cause or an effect, the blood supply to the fetus might be slowly compromised, potentially leading to a life threatening situation. In this case, the umbilical cord got wrapped around the fetuses’ abdomen during delivery, and though this could be alarming to some, the doctors did not lose strength and time and quickly unwrapped it.
Wow good post...ive only seen wrapped atound neck!!
