Car door finger amputation! (Videos will be posted next). Here we have the case of a 65-year-old man who suffered a transverse amputation of the distal portion of the second finger on the left hand. This happened accidentally when a friend closed the car door and his hand was caught in the way. After initial evaluation of the patient it was decided that the best initial management besides pain medications & antibiotics, was to suture the finger tip back together as a temporary measure. This was done due to 3 main reasons, to control the bleeding, to build a barrier against infections, and due to the lack of a specialist at the hospital the time he arrived. The proper treatment in the case of this patient is a procedure called V-Y Plasty which is a specialized technique that will give the patient a more functional & aesthetic look to his finger. Patient was oriented that the tip of the finger will fall off due to the lack of blood flow and that proper specialty care is needed for his particular situation. Case by @dr.johnmarti
