This is an ovarian epithelial tumor at the malignant end of the spectrum of ovarian serous tumors, unlike the serous adenoma which is benign. Lesions are typically mixed solid/cystic masses, which are frequently bilateral and often presenting with general features of advanced malignancy such as ascites, peritoneal nodularity and lymphadenopathy. Surgery is often the initial treatment of choice for ovarian cancer, but the aim is to confirm the diagnosis, determine the extent of the disease, and go resect all visible tumor. Surgery is done in conjunction with appropriate usage of chemotherapeutic agents.
