Maxillectomy is the removal of all or part of the maxilla bone. It is indicated for tumors of the hard palate, nose, maxillary sinus or other tumors that have grown to involve the maxilla.

Here a total maxillectomy specimen is placed with orbital exanteration. Other types include Medial maxillectomy, suprastructure and infrastructure maxillectomy. Indications of the procedure : Squamous cell Ca of the oropharynx, rhabdomyosarcoma and lymphoma infiltrations. The procedure starts with prep like that for a FESS. Medial canthotomy is done and a weber ferguson incision is placed. cheek flap is made, inferior orbital rim transected, sinuses removed and the infraorbital nerve is checked. finally orbital exanteration is done if needed
