Esophageal achalasia is a failure of smooth muscle fibers to relax, which can cause the lower esophageal sphincter to remain closed. The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a muscular ring that closes off the esophagus from the stomach. If someone have achalasia, LES fails to open up during swallowing, which it's supposed to do. This leads to a backup of food within the esophagus.
Can cause putrifaction of food as it gets stagnant and further bacterial infection.
later on...complicates to aspiration pneumonia..idk..i heard french fries pneumonia..my bad
realted hirschsprung disease ....when neural crest cells fail to form the enteric plexuses so...no relaxation(A chalasia)....idk but for some weird reason tympanosoma cruzi loves to invade the plexuses at the lowermost part of esophagus when it comes to acquired etiology..hmmm
