Scoliosis

Have you seen a scoliosis like this? 14 year old female with severe scoliosis. The patient underwent multilevel osteotomies and single stage fusion and instrumentation to correct her deformity. In scoliosis, the patient’s spine is curved from side to side or front to back, and may also be rotated. On an x-ray, the spine of an individual with a typical scoliosis may look more like an "S" or a "C" than a straight line. It is quite common in young individuals and is often idiopathic and asymptomatic. In some cases, however, it is the result of underlying structural or neurological abnormalities.

I couldn’t even imagine this pain. I have very minor scoliosis and it causes me very very bad pain. Interferes with daily tasks. This poor girl. Glad she was able to get treatment for it

I had a curve of about 15 which later turned to a 31 when I was about 14. They put me in a back brace which was supposed to aid my back and prevent it from getting any worse, but instead it caused my back to go from 31 to 57 in a matter of a day and a half. I was in so much pain, just breathing and sitting. Standing was out of the question because the curve also twisted my back and made me hunch over forward. I was in a wheelchair for six months. Much better now though! Slightest curve of only 13!

Can someone explain how the deformity advances? She was only 14 so what was her spin looking like at 4-5 years of age. Did the parents not recognize this early whats the progression time?
