Lesions along the Visual Pathway!

Lesions along the Visual Pathway!

Lesions of the Visual Pathways, with anatomical relationships! ⁣⁣ Overall the Visual Pathway consist of: ⁣⁣ *Retina⁣⁣ *Optic nerve⁣⁣ *Optic chiasm (and there, the nasal visual field ⁣⁣ fibers cross over to the opposite side)⁣⁣ *Optic tract⁣⁣ *Lateral geniculate nucleus⁣⁣ *Optic radiation⁣⁣ *Primary and secondary visual cortices⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Visual Pathway Lesions! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A. Optic Nerve lesion, information cannot even be brought down from that eye, we have complete blindness of the left eye called Left Anopia. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ B. Optic Chiasm lesion, could be due to a pituitary tumor, Temporal nerves cross over so no information and as a result, blindness from temporal fields called Bitemporal Hemianopia.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ C. Left Homonymous Hemianopia - a lesion occurs here after optic chiasm, we get a loss of vision from right nasal field and left temporal field. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ D. Right Homonymous Superior Quadrantanopia - if there is a lesion of just one nerve in the optic tract. So superior quadrant vision of the right nasal field and the right temporal field is lost. ⁣⁣ Instagram @rev.med⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Video for this coming soon!
