(A) In rheumatoid arthritis of the TMJ, the joint lining (synovial tissue) grows abnormally and causes bone loss in the front and back of the condyle. Over time, the disk and joint surface of the condyle become uneven. (B) Arthroscopic view shows overgrowth of the synovial tissue.
