Modern fluorescence-guided surgery technique enable to make the tumour (glioblastoma in this photo) glow, resulting in an easier and more complete removal. The patient drinks 5-Aminolevulinic acid before surgery. That 5-ALA reacts with cells that have a very high metabolism (tumour cells) and creates autofluorescent molecules that make the tumor light up.
