Cause of Pyostomatitis vegetans

The pathogenesis of Pyostomatitis vegetans is unknown, but there is a theory that an abnormal immune response in the course of IBD led to cross reaction of antigens in the skin and small bowel, leading to this mucocutaneous manifestation.
