Recently there's been a lot of debate on the sensitive topic of abortion. Pro life supporters have argued that abortion at any stage of gestation is murder and should be illegal, and that pregnancy is a concequence of choosing to be sexually active. Oro choice advocates argue that women should be able to make their own choices regarding their bodies, and that the life changing event of having a child should be one that a mother chooses to have. So I'm wondering, what do you doctors and fellow future doctors think about this issue? Are you pro choice, pro life, or something in between, and why do you stand by your position? Everyone please be respectful in the comments, I know this is a hot topic g for many, but I'd love to have a respectful discussion about this:)
In my country, Iran islamic laws allowing abortion in certain cases 1)when the fetus shows signs of handicap. 2)where the mother's life is in danger, and 3)in cases of fetal abnormalities that makes it not viable after birth (such as anencephaly) or produce difficulties for mother to take care of it after birth, such as major thalassemia or bilateral polycystic kidney disease. There is no need for a consent from the father and request and consent of mother with approval of three specialist physicians and final acceptance by legal medicine center suffices. Legal abortion is allowed before 19th weeks of pregnancy. > I think it is reasonable and ethicaly, it is human right so we don't have the right to decide for living or death of other people. It was my opinion.
I’m Catholic but I do agree that we don’t have the right to decide for living or death of other people. That’s very logical already👍🏼
Well said! Thank you for sharing your opinions and the laws surrounding abortion in your country :)
Pro life Catholic here - Well , people often talk about the mother’s rights, but what people talk about less is the child’s rights , even if at a very young age in the tummy. For example , why would a child at 25 weeks have the right to live, but a child at 11 weeks can be killed through abortion? Who are we to decide at which age those children have the right to live and when they don’t? So I do believe, that the child does have rights too - the right to live and not be killed through abortion. 😊
