LEISHMANIASIS A vector-borne disease that is transmitted by sand flies and caused by obligate intracellular protozoa of the genus Leishmania. Clinical presentation: multiple clinical syndromes, visceral, cutaneous, and mucosal forms. Infections can result in two forms cutaneous leishmaniasis and visceral leishmaniasis (kala-azar).
