👋...hey guys...so here’s some notes on medical imaging and also ➡️PERICARDIAL EFFUSION⬅️: Which is also known as Pericarditis or the inflammation around the heart. This can be acute pericarditis (lasting only a few weeks) or chronic pericarditis (which can exceed six months). Pericardial Effusion can develop into Cardiac Tamponade where fluid pools in the pericardial cavity (this can be blood or excess serous fluid anywhere from 150mL to 1.5 Liters). Cardiac Tamponade is most often caused by trauma (stabbing ~ puncture blood vessels, blunt trauma ~ rupture small blood vessels). The symptoms of Cardiac Tamponade is presented as Beck’s Triad: 1. Hypotension 2. Distended neck veins 3. Distant heart sounds Also Tachycardia, coughing, dyspnea, and weakness. Cardiac Tamponade is treated by draining the fluid around the heart in a process called Pericardiocentesis!
