3D rendered CT scan of bone metastases of the hip bone, in a patient with parotid gland cancer. Large lesions are seen on the ilium on the more distant side. Involvement of the vertebral column has caused a compression fracture. Bone metastasis (Cancer spread to bones) occurs when cancer cells break away from the original tumor and spread to the bones, where they begin to multiply. Bone metastases do not begin from the bones but move there from the primary tumor.
