Stroke, commonly known as a stroke, is a serious condition that occurs when the blood supply to the brain is cut off. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, which occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery supplying blood to the brain, and hemorrhagic, which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures. Strokes can cause symptoms such as weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding, and problems with balance or coordination. They can also cause permanent brain damage and increase the risk of dementia. Strokes are a leading cause of disability and death worldwide. Risk factors for stroke include age, gender (men are more at risk), family history of stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking. To prevent stroke, it is important to manage risk factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes and adopt healthy lifestyles such as avoiding smoking and exercising regularly. If you suspect you're having a stroke or have concerns about your symptoms, it's important to seek immediate medical help, as prompt treatment can reduce your risk of permanent brain damage.
