Alpha and Beta Blockers

Alpha and Beta Blockers

Do beta-blockers cause dilation or constriction? This is an important concept of pharmacology. Beta blockers can have a constricting effect on the bronchi of the lungs, possibly worsening or causing asthma symptoms. Since β2 adrenergic receptors can cause vascular smooth muscle dilation, beta blockers may cause some vasoconstriction. Do alpha blockers cause vasoconstriction or vasodilation? These alpha blockers widen the blood vessels by blocking both alpha 1 and alpha 2 receptors. The blocking of alpha 1 receptors causes the widening of the blood vessels by inhibiting the action of catecholamines that cause vasoconstriction
