Dialysis

This video shows the two types of dialysis procedures for removing waste and excess fluid in the body when the kidneys stop functioning properly. Dialysis can also be done to treat acute kidney failure or to remove drugs or poisons from the body. In one type of dialysis, called hemodialysis, a dialyzer machine is used to clean the blood outside the body. In a peritoneal dialysis, the membranes lining the abdomen and intestines, called the peritoneum, is used to clean the blood without removing it from the body.
