TMJ disorder can be caused by injury to the jaw joints or surrounding tissues. Other TMD causes include: Bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching). Dislocation of the disc between the ball and socket joint. Arthritis in the TMJ. Stress. Acute trauma. An improper bite.
