Lynch syndrome, also known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), is a type of inherited cancer syndrome associated with a genetic predisposition to different cancer types. This means people with Lynch syndrome have a higher risk of certain types of cancer. Individuals with Lynch syndrome have a 50 to 80 percent lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer compared to 2% in the general population. Women with Lynch syndrome also carry a 40-60 percent lifetime risk of developing endometrial cancer.
