Health Risks of Anal Sex Like vaginal sex, anal sex also has some risks. It is not a popularly practiced sexual activity yet many men perform anal sex with male and female partner. There are some short and long term risks associated with anal sex. • Unlike vagina, anus does not produce lubrication and has thin lining. This produces a lot of friction making the intercourse rough. Anal lining is vulnerable to tears and provides far more access to HPV and HIV than vaginal intercourse. • Repetitive anal sex harms the anal sphincter. This sphincter loosens upon fecal reflex and tightens after bowel movement. Damage to anal sphincter can make it very difficult to hold the feces until you have a chance to go to toilet. • Since anus is a pathway for feces it is full of bacteria. Anal sex followed by oral or vaginal sex can lead to serious infections. • Aggressive anal sex can worsen hemorrhoids and even cause colon perforation. It is a medical emergency and the person must be rushed to the hospital.
