It has a central region of grey matter (red) that contains nerve cell bodies and their associated fibres. The outer zone of white matter (yellow- brown) consists solely of tracts of nerve fibres. There is an outer covering of meninges (white), specialized connective tissue layers & are three in number, named; 1 ) Dura matter. 2 ) Arachnoid matter. 3 ) Pia matter. Meninges provides protection and secretes cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
