Atherosclerotic Plaque

Atherosclerotic Plaque

Male 54year old patient- surgical removal of atherosclerotic plaque from the femoral artery. He was in a stable state with no erosions or damage to the lining of the artery. However the surgery wasn't as straight forward, but managed to remove the plaque as one and whole. With addition of a stent, placed just above the popliteal artery. Without surgical removal, would lead to many complications: reduced blow flow peripherally; plaque rupture; thrombosis; blood clot; necrosis; stroke; MI (myocardial infarction)
