What is Seprafilm procedure?
Seprafilm is a preventive intervention in surgical procedures. It is chemically modified sodium hyaluronate/ carboxymethylcellulose which serves as absorbable adhesion barrier. It is a sterile, translucent and bioresorbable adhesion barrier made up of two anions sodium hyaluronate (HA) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). Seprafilm is used in patient undergoing pelvic or abdominal laparatomy. This minimizes the incidence and extent of post-operative adhesions. Adhesions are a common sequel of abdominal and pelvic surgery which form between the organs or organs and abdominal wall.
