What is Enterovirus D68?
There are 100 types of non-polio enteroviruses. Enterovirus D68 is one of them. This virus causes respiratory illness presenting with sneezing, runny nose, body ache, cough and muscle ache. In severe cases, patients report with difficulty breathing and wheezing. This virus most commonly infects infants, children and teenagers. EV D68 transmits via respiratory droplets and direct contact with contaminated surfaces. There is no vaccine available for Enterovirus D68.
