Statins, also called HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors, are the most common group of medicines prescribed for individuals with high cholesterol. These medicines reduce the level of LDL in blood by reducing the synthesis of LDL in the liver thus preventing severe complications and mortality of high cholesterol. Possible complications include coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack and stroke. Statins include Atorvastatin, Fluvastatin, and Simvastatin.
