What are irregular periods?
Oligomenorrhea, simple called irregular periods, is a condition characterized by periods occurring less than 21 days and more than 35 days apart. On average, the length of cycle is 28 days. This means you should bleed after 28 days. If your two periods have gap of less than 21 days or more than 35 days, this indicates oligomenorrhea. There are several reasons associated with oligomenorrhea such as hormonal imbalance, puberty, menopause, pregnancy, contraception, weight gain or loss and disease of ovary or uterus. Most common disorder leading to oligomenorrhea is Polycystic Kidney Disease (PCOS).
