Can somebody explain how estrogen is unopposed and progesterone not present in anovulatory cycle ? Since cholesterol in follicle can produce progesterone in female granulosa and theca cells, it can go to blood stream and be present whereas in estrogen also the same process occurs. If it is not ovulating then, both will be absent ..

Estrogen is unopposed because In anovulatory cycle, LH doesn’t peak and FSH levels don’t drop. In continuous stimulus of FSH you have constant production of estrogen in follicule. As for Progresteron; without LH peak and ovulation, corpus luteum doesn’t generate. Corpus luteum is responsible for progesterone secretion in second part of menstural cycle. Cholesterol is progenitor supstrate for many hormones, but the path which it takes on peripheral tissues, depends on regulation in pituitary/hypothalamus axis.
