Celiac disease, also known as celiac sprue, non-tropical sprue, gluten-sensitive enteropathy, is an autoimmune disorder characterized by abnormal immune response to gluten. This disease mostly presents with vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, foul-smelling and pale stools. Exposure to gluten produces permanent damage to small intestines which ultimately develops malnutrition. Celiac disease does not have treatment. However, following strict gluten-free diet can help in living a healthy lifestyle.
