Mechanism of Action of Celecoxib Celecoxib blocks cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). This enzyme has integral role in prostaglandin synthesis which is responsible for onset of pain and inflammation. When Celecoxib is given pain and inflammation subsides. It has anti-pyretic, anti-analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
