Parents play the central role in helping their child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Here is what parents can do. • Reinforce consistently. • Set up a schedule and follow a routine. • Appreciate and reward your child for doing something good or putting effort. • Visual indications to create a safe space at home. • Read their facial expressions, voices, gestures, eye movements and behaviors. They may not communicate verbally but their body language says a lot. • Calm down the tantrum by eliminating the underlying cause. They may feel neglected and upset. • Do something fun with your child. It can be educational and sporty.
