Transcatheter Device Closure of ASD

Transcatheter Device Closure of ASD

Transcatheter device closure of an atrial septal defect (ASD) is a minimally invasive procedure that treats a hole in the heart wall separating the atria. A closure device is inserted via a thin tube (catheter) through a blood vessel in the groin and threaded to the heart to seal the defect. This approach offers a safer, faster recovery, and shorter hospital stay compared to open-heart surgery, and it is the preferred treatment for most types of secundum ASDs.
