3 Layer ACDF

3 Layer ACDF

FUSION FUSION FUSION !!!This is one of the first operations that i was in the operating room for. ACDF or anterior cervical dissection and fusion is an operation that is used when herniated disc is impacting roots of the spinal cord which can lead to severe nerve pain and tingling sensations on a patient. The surgeon will remove the herniated disc completely and replace it with a cervical cage that is packed with either artificial bone graft or harvested bone such as osteophytes, or a combination of both. The surgeon will then use a plate the stabilize the levels of the vertebra depending on the severity of the case. cervical plates can come in different levels to fuse different layers at the same time. C4,C5 C5,C6 C6,C7 Screws inserted. The downside to a fusion with this many levels is that mobility will be decreased.
