What are drawbacks of digital nerve blocks?
Digital nerve block is a minor and easy to perform procedure that in done in cases of: • Different injuries (like fractures, lacerations, etc) • For different procedures (e.g. infection drainage and wound repair). The procedure involves injecting a regional anesthesia to anesthetize the area locally and specified nerves are blocked using this technique. COMPLICATIONS OF DIGITAL NERVE BLOCKS Following complications can arise: 1. Pain in the involved area 2. Bleeding from the site 3. Nerve injuries like neuropraxia or neurolysis 4. Area gets infected 5. Allergic reactions 6. Injection into the vessel 7. Local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) 8. Poor wound healing 9. Inflammation of the tendons
