Fetal alcohol syndrome

Fetal alcohol syndrome is a condition characterized by physical defects, cognitive and intellectual disabilities along with problems coping with normal life activities. This problem is associated with alcohol consumption by the mother during the pregnancy. Physical defects includes small eyes, thin upper lip, saddle nose, loss of philtrum, joint and limb deformities, slowed growth, defects with vision, cardiac anomalies and kidney problems. CNS abnormalities includes poor coordination and balance, intellectual disability, poor memory and judgement skills, mood changes and difficulty with reasoning and problem solving. A child can also have problem with daily life activities like difficulty or trouble in school, behaviour problem, poor concept of time and difficulty in problem solving.
