Cryptorchidism

Cryptorchidism is a congenital anomaly which testis arrested along the normal course of descent. Most common on the right side. It can be palpable and impalpable. Palpable: cannot be palpable in the inguinal region but can be milked into superficial pouch or into the scortum Impalpable: Not able not palpate as testis are absent or small or present in the abdomen. For palpable Ultrasound is the best initial investigation, while for the unpalpable Diagnostic laparoscopy is the investigation of choice. Surgical treatment for the palpable testis is Single stage orchidopexy while for the impalpable it can be either Single stage or two stage orchidopexy. The best timing of surgery is after 4 months of age and before 2 years of age.
