Pharmacologic Therapy for HPV Treatment Pharmacologic therapy is divided into two broad categories for the treatment of HPV infection. • Immune response modifiers: - E.g. imiquimod and interferon alpha - For treatment of external anogenital warts and condylomata acuminata • Cytotoxic agents: - E.g. antiproliferative drugs (podofilox, podophylllin and 5-FU) and chemodestructive or keratolytic (salicyclic acid, bichloracetic acid and trichloroacetic acid) - Keratolytics are recommended for the treatment of non-genital cutaneous warts.
