Vasospasm of coronary arteries can result in angina. Usually it coexists with atherosclerosis and that too mostly in the cases of unstable angina. Isolated cases of variant angina occur in < 1% of the cases in patients having normal coronary arteries. When variant angina occurs along with presence of transient elevation of ST segment on the ECG it is known as Prinzmetal’s angina.
