- Posterior tibial nerve is a branch of sciatic nerve. - It passes down the posterior thigh and then courses down to posteromedial leg. - Posterior tibial nerve innervates intrinsic muscles of foot e.g. extensor digitorum brevis. - It supplies sensory innervations to plantar surface of foot. - After coursing down to the level of ankle, the position of posterior tibial nerve is between medial malleolus and heel.
