What are the clinical considerations prior to administration of a posterior tibial nerve block?
1. Ensure the patient is in correct position. 2. Prepare extra precautions in case of fracture as the foot attains more dorsiflex position after achieving anesthesia. 3. Add buffering solution to suppress pain. 4. Bring the temperature of anesthetic solution to room temperature to suppress pain upon injecting. 5. In case of having no paramedic staff, tape lidocaine bottle to the wall so you can directly draw more anesthetic agent without effecting the sterility protocol.
