Human Bites
Though human bites might not seem serious or severe, they can cause complications that are very damaging and painful. Around 250,000 human bites are reported each year, among both adults and children – 10% of children who are bitten develop an infection, resulting from bacteria found in human saliva, specifically aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.The bacterial inoculum of human bite wounds contains as many as 100 million organisms per milliliter and is made up of as many as 190 different species. In addition to the acute risk of localized infection, human bites pose the potential for the transmission of systemic infections too.
