Mortality and Morbidity Risk in Group A Streptococcal Pharyngitis • Mortality from pharyngitis is rare however it may result from a complication • High mortality risk in patients who develop complication of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome characterized by hypotension and multi-organ failure • Other complications with severe manifestations include retropharyngeal, intracranial and intraorbital abscess
