Is nasopharyngitis more common in males or females?
In women, hormonal changes influence the severity of symptoms of nasopharyngitis. The hormonal fluctuation during pregnancy and menstrual cycle causes hyperemia of naospharynx. When these changes are coupled with increased exposure to small children, as they are potential reservoirs of nasopharyngitis-causing viruses, the intensity of symptoms increases. Thus, pharyngitis is much more common in females of 20-30 age rather than men of same age.
