Beckwith-Wiedmann syndrome is also known as Overgrowth syndrome attributed to larger size of the baby i.e., macrosomia. Due to accelerated growth in the childhood, the individuals with Beckwith-Wiedmann syndrome are often taller among their peers. However, the growth slows down by the age of 8 years. Overgrowth syndrome can cause symmetric or asymmetric growth of different body parts called hemihyperplasia. Babies born with Beckwith-Wiedmann syndrome usually have abdominal wall pathologies e.g., omphalocele. They may also have enlarged tongue i.e., macroglossia, and visceromegaly.
