Glaucoma is an eye disease which is the most common cause of irreversible blindness. In this condition, aqueous humor does not exit the eye and accumulates which increases the intraocular pressure. The optic nerve undergoes progressive damage and which leads to peripheral loss of vision followed by central loss of vision and ultimately blindness. The causes of glaucoma are - Genetic influence - Accumulation of aqueous humor - Ocular infection - Blocked artery of eye - Inflammation - Age - Diseases e.g. Hypertension, diabetes, sickle cell anemia, heart disease The symptoms of glaucoma are - Nausea and vomiting - Eye pain - Headache - Visual disturbances - Red eyes - Halos around lights Glaucoma is diagnosed by - Cranial nerve (Optic nerve) checkup - Tonometry - Visual Field Test The treatment of glaucoma is - Eye drops - Laser surgery - Micro surgery
