Acute pericarditis is an inflammatory condition of the pericardium characterized by pericarditic chest pain, pericardial friction rub, and serial ECG changes (eg, new widespread ST-elevation or PR depression; new/worsening pericardial effusion). Patient may present with chest pain, usually retrosternal radiating to left arm or neck. Other signs and symptoms may include low-grade fever, dyspnea, cough and dysphagia. Management may include aspirin, NSAIDs, pericardiectomy, pericardial window placement and pericardiocentesis.
