How Three-Sided digital nerve block technique is performed?
Digital nerve block is a minor and easy to perform procedure that in done in cases of: • Different injuries (like fractures, lacerations, etc) • For different procedures (e.g. infection drainage and wound repair). The procedure involves injecting a regional anesthesia to anesthetize the area locally and specified nerves are blocked using this technique. THREE-SIDED DIGITAL NERVE BLOCK • Used in cases of great toe. • Foot is placed with planter side downward and agent is injected prependicular to the toe medially to the digit and distal to metatarsal-phalangeal joint. • Keep on injecting the agent by moving the needle towards the planter side without piercing the planter side. • Trace the needle back and then inject it medially • Then inject the agent from medial to lateral aspect and then finally withdraw the needle. • Finally another injection is used on the lateral aspect which is directed prependicular to the foot and moved from dorsal to the ventral aspect.
