What is the role of interferons in the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV)?
There are no consistently effective treatment options for disseminated human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Interferons have been shown to have some efficacy in treatment of genital warts through protecting murine cells against infection with bovine papillomaviruses and to eliminate extrachromosomal viral DNA from infected cells, but local treatments have appeared to have produced better results than systemic treatments in previous studies.
