What are the features of extra pulmonary tuberculosis?
Extrapulmonary tuberculosis is tuberculosis outside the lungs and usually results from hematogenous dissemination. It includes Tuberculous meningitis, Abdominal tuberculosis (with ascites), Skeletal tuberculosis, Pott's disease (spine), Scrofula (lymphadenitis), and Genitourinary (renal) tuberculosis. Symptoms vary but generally include fever, malaise and weight loss. Diagnosis is most often by sputum smear and culture. Treatment includes multiple antimicrobial drugs given for atleast 6 months.
